On the 5th August 2024, approximately between 19:00 till 23:00, hundreds of violent protesters took to Plymouth. The main action took place at a cross section between Royal Parade and Armada Way. On one side were the nation-wide on-tour protesters, holding Union Jacks and shopping bags filled with bottles and cans of alcohol, for drinking pursposes of course, and the counter-protesters on the other side, holding placards and collective chants. In between them, a no man's land of police officers, cars, dogs, press and me. This collection of photos explores the battle as it unfolded between the two sides into the night. I have never seen such collective insanity, violent thuggery in my hometown of Plymouth. Disturbing seems to be the best description, a battle ground where no one was infallible.
